Business Rules apply to NXT activity

Similar to the pop up requests, but expanded to enable all settings in RE > Config > Business Rules for NXT activity.  EG RE can do some great things when you mark someone deceased, like change marital status and unchecking send mail flags.  We need that in NXT too, or our data quality goes down the pan.  You have to train NXT users to do all this manually.  AND you have to setup queries to cover all these situations to ensure data integrity.

Agreed with others - aside from the standard very necessary business rules of invalid address, deceased constituent, etc. I have rules setup for:

    • When entering a gift and the constituent selected is not the Head of Household

    • When entering a gift and the donor has an active proposal entry/opportunity

    • When entering a gift and a donor has an outstanding pledge balance

    • When a constituent is an active board member to caution against making changes to the record

And another commenter mentioned this, which I plan to add right away: Prompt to update a deceased constituent's spouse addressee/salutation to omit the deceased constituent.

This is another situation where NXT is designed for the fundraisers, not made for the database administrators. We don't need a "clean look" we need the tools available to work for us to make for an efficient, clean database of accurate information so that we don't need more work and to go back and fix things constantly when they are entered incorrectly.

Would like to have a pop-up when entering a gift and the donor is not the HoH record, as I do in DBV.

Specifically, we need user-defined rules that allow notifications during gift entry for specific notes and Opportunity (RIP proposals) notifications.

We are unable to process gifts without business rules. We need to be able to have user defined business rules.

This is critical to our daily processes, please add this to the web view. We're not able to process gifts in web view yet because of this issue.

Alerting for open pledges and opportunities is critical to our, and likely every other nonprofit organization's work. Please make this available.

Business rules - and being able to add new ones - are crucial. We particularly use Outstanding Balance, outstanding reg fees, and open opportunity/proposal

yes, an alert would be so helpful and save time while processing gifts to not have to go and search the record.

I am excited that we can link opportunities to gifts in web view gift batch now! However, it is crucial to have business rules in web view so orgs can configure custom rules to notify the person entering gifts that the donor has an open opportunity (this example is at the top of the list in my 3/23/26 comment below).

    Yes this is needed

Business rules are absolutely needed and the customization of adding new rules is needed also.

Honestly, I can't believe this was suggested eight years ago, has over 1000 votes and it still hasn't been implemented.

Business rules my org uses regularly:

    Outstanding pledge balance

    Outstanding recurring gifts

    Outstanding registration fees

    Lapsed Membership

Prompt to update a deceased constituent's spouse addressee/salutation to omit the deceased constituent

Pop up style business rules are necessary, operated off query. Each org will have their own things that they are trying to catch in their data, that "pre built" fields could not possibly cover all of. Just a few examples of business rules we have are:

-This constituent has no valid address.
-This constituent has an open opportunity.
    -This constituent is marked inactive.
-This constituent has a pledge on their record.

Please build the Business Rule functionality in NXT. We use them for a variety of purposes. Especially for gifts and data processing. Those rules pop up in batch and keep us on track with donor requests or special circumstances.

I've referred to NXT as the Wild West as it is VERY difficult to lockdown the level of detail that you need with the current security settings and business rules would help some of this. They help keep the integrity of the system to an acceptable level that eases routine maintenance.

This is so essential for data cleaning!!! I can't highlight enough what a timesaver this feature is, or the level of manual bloat (plus manual errors) it would create if Database view is sunsetted and we don't have this!
