There wasn't a category for this idea so I just selected lists (because it seems mostly related to it). I just got the marketing email function in NXT and was fooling with it. It looks like it's going to be great for us but I did notice that you can only use the first name, middle name, last name, or full name. We have a specific email salutation type that we use that I'd love to be able to select. This is needed because if the email is for both primary and spouse (johnandjanesmith@gmail.com) the email salutation needs to be John and Jane not just John or Jane. And it needs to be based upon type not format (e-sal not the addressee/salutation formats configured in the database view).
This would be extremely helpful. It seems madness that you have all the information input into the correct fields in RE but then can't use them in NXT. We have a complex way of addressing alumni and parents and it is important it is done correctly. This lack of options of merge fields make this an incredibly admin heavy task that isn't necessary and has potential to cause issues with future mailings
Also need functionality to make merge fields conditional
If <nickname> else <first name> else <friend>
I completely agree that the released email marketing is useless to use because of lack of fields - the dynamic addressee and salutation fields are one of the strengths of RE, so I was disappointed to see they were not available in marketing. I don't want to address people by just their first initial like "Dear C" either - salutation works for couples, nicknames, incomplete names etc.
Also what about organisations with and without contact people?
I agree with this. We send emails using OLX in RE and I was kind of shocked to see that I don't have the same merge fields available to me in the email function of NXT. We use addressee and salutation a lot and have the tertiary addressee in OLX linked to a specific addressee field that we put an alums directory user name in. We also use the nickname field in our emails. I can't use the email function in NXT until there are more optionsin the merge fields.
