When using lists to deploy an email through the Marketing workspace, neither in the list or in the pop-up prior to confirming deployment of an email does the system display that the constituent is unable to be contacted for whatever reason (i.e. the email is marked DNC/inactive/unsubscribed).
Adding a piece to the pop-up for email confirmation with a warning stating "X number of recipients cannot be contacted due to email suppression criteria" would help at least show that a review of records is necessary if not make it a clickable link to create a separate list of just those folks. The possibility of a column in NXT lists that has an icon for whether the constituent can be contacted by the system via Marketing emails would be ideal for following up with these folks. Currently the only similar pop-up only happens in Marketing after the fact and only if the number of constituents get down to zero (i.e. "This email has no recipients because all the email addresses met our suppression criteria.")
Example Workflow: We use a list to catch anyone who had a failed recurring gift for today's date so that we can send them a standardized failure email each time. The person performing the workflow verifies the NXT list populates with the correct number of constituents and then uses that list in the Marketing email. However, let's say we have 20 constituents populating that list and 1 has an unsubscribed email. If we go to deploy the Marketing email, the pop-up prior to finalizing deployment of the email states that it will be sending to 20 constituents. Thus, the user doesn't know anything is wrong and that they should follow-up with that 1 constituent via phone or a physical letter.
