Currently, uploads are tagged by the date on which they were uploaded by default. This date can only be changed by saving the attachment, closing it, opening it back up, and then editing the date.
I think that the attachment date should be an editable field at the time of upload.
This would make batch uploading legacy files (an already monumental task) one step simpler.
Hey everyone! Just wanted to make sure everyone saw that this is possible now. Thanks to everyone that commented and voted on this to bring it to our attention!
Same here. At my last job, we rarely added the Attachment on the same day. Even proposals would often be submitted and then the final file for RE would be given to me to put in RE several days or weeks (or sometimes months) later. I know those staff members could upload it themselves, but in some cases comfort with anything technology needs to happen in baby steps.
We also sent birthday cards, which were done in batches for a month, signed, scanned, and then set aside to be mailed several days before the birthday. Those I would attach but want to put a future date on them. In the end, I just left the Attachment Date as the date I attached the file and went with the Action Date instead, because it was too time-consuming to keep the dates accurate.
That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the detail. So you are doing something outside of RE NXT (email or post) that you want a copy of in RE NXT, but you want it reflected with the date that the actual event occurred and its more efficient for you to wait until you have a large number of them and do them all at once. Anyone else on here have this same problem or perhaps a different use case?
Hi Jarod,
In my case, there may be 20 letters sent out in a day. Were I a more efficient person, I would attach them on that date and then the issue would be moot. But instead, I usually save them until I have approximately 100 and then I just set aside some time and upload each one then. And so of course by then, the date is no longer current and it needs to be switched back to the date of the letter, rather than the date I am adding it.
Hey everyone. Thanks for the idea! I understand what you are all referencing here and can see it in the application myself, but do have a follow-up question. What exactly is the use case for changing the attachment date (specifically at the time its being uploaded)? What are you actually trying to accomplish or capture by changing the date on the attachment when you add it? The thinking when this feature was built was that assuming today's date would be correct nearly 100% of the time, so in order to keep the form as streamlined as possible, it was kept off of the Add attachment form entirely. I certainly don't like the workflow I hear described here though (I know I want it to be another date when adding it, but I have to Save, then Edit just to change it), but I need some help understanding the "why".
Yes!! Of course, I didn't see this and just added it as an idea myself. We should consolidate (or vote for each other!) :)
Any thoughts from Blackbaud?
Thank you! This is on my list of things to look for in the Idea Bank and add if I can't find them already existing.
