A specific field for recording pronoun preferences

Whilst it is possible to record someone's gender as non binary, there is no where specifically for their pronoun preferences to be recorded ie them/they.

Please can this be created asap. Of course there are work arounds but they are not ideal.

Reuben, we all use pronouns - including yourself, as I would guess based on your name you would dislike it if people used anything other than he/him/his when referring to you outside of that name. They are an integral part of speech, and in fact the "we" you used in your comment is itself a pronoun.

It's honestly frustrating this is not a field in a constituent's bio yet. Not only is it important for us to recognize donors who use they/them or neopronouns, it's also a great way to address donors who have gender-neutral names or names in other languages we might not recognize right away as masculine or feminine if we are not familiar with that language.

My workaround for this is to note pronouns in the Summary Note field, but having them be a pull-able entry in the Personal Info section of Constituent Summary would be MUCH more ideal.

Note: Please use the term "Pronoun" for this field. "Preferred pronoun" is considered outdated because it implies a norm and suggests that someone’s pronouns are optional or negotiable.

I echo what Sunshine stated. Important field. Avoiding work arounds would be great.

Please add this and make it appear in the constituent record header. So many organizations are using work arounds for something that should be a standard field by now.

Apologies for the duplicate comment. I would also like to point out that voting may be low on this idea as gender-diverse people are a small percentage of the population and many people are not aware or don't think about it. Blackbaud may wish to consider that when using vote counts to decide on this issue.

I agree this should be added as a system field. We don't want to accidentally misgender anyone. Given how robust Raiser's Edge is, it's surprising this field doesn't exist already.

This has taken far too long to add to NXT, its becoming a major issue. A specific field needs to be added ideally to the constituent summary tab urgently

It’d be great if NXT had a simple pronouns field right on the constituent record. More orgs are trying to communicate respectfully, and having pronouns easy to see (and not buried in a workaround) would make that a lot easier. A built‑in field helps avoid mistakes and keeps everyone on the same page.

    Reuben Schmitz, everyone uses pronouns.

Who is still using pronouns? Aren't we past that yet?

Agreed! Hopefully this is an easy update and can be added quickly. Thank you!

We are using a custom field for this, but it really needs to be an integrated part of their biographical information so it can be used for mail merges.

Agreed! I am not sure why this is still not an option yet.

We have modified our Gender field to include all the options, He/Him, They/Them etc etc, but we can only change the label in Database View. Please turn on the ability to change the field label in Web View. And turn on the ability to deactivate Male and Female as menu options. I am constantly having to check for data entry errors in that field because those options can't be inactivated. Given we are a human rights organization, it's really not great that staff who are non-binary have to have that in their face every day, never mind the public using a form or portal.

(edit of previous comment: I meant "donor portal" not "donor field")

I agree with the need for this to be an enterprise level field. In addition, this would be a more valuable field to be visible and editable in the donor field instead of gender. (We actually haven't used the gender field in the past so I think it has been jarring for our test users to find it set as "Unknown" by default instead of "Not recorded"-- Almost all users have immediately updated that field after being invited).

I say this as a cis woman with a masculine name--I always appreciate being able to set my pronouns (or title) in portals.

Yep, needs to be an enterprise level field rather than a custom field so it is immediately visible from the header summary (just like Preferred Name) or Personal Info in the Constituent summary tile (like Gender or Age). Custom fields and Other name formats are way too buried and hard to find when you're on the phone live with a donor.

I agree, this should be created asap! Having a prominent place to record preferred pronouns is critical and would make a huge difference for my organization.
