Show Soft credit amount for gifts in web view

We have noticed that soft credit donations are showing the individual soft credit amount for the constituent in their record as a soft credit gift in RE database view. But in the NXT Online View, the total gift amount from the donor is showing on their record. You then have to select this gift record to see all of the soft credits.

This KB article https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/97768 mentions this problem and notes that a Soft Credit column will need to be added to show any partial soft credit amount. Although this is not available, after speaking with Blackbaud support, they suggested I post this suggestion here for the developers to look at. Thanks!

This is very poorly designed - we encourage our gift officers to go through "work with gifts" to be able to view matching gift credits (also poor design to have to do this), and the soft credit distribution shown in parentheses on the Giving History tile is completely absent from that screen. It seems that the "more questions than answers" came from those who do not need to be quickly totaling gifts and communicating with donors. The "cohesive" user experience would be to have the giving history mirror what shows in the database view, which is the soft credit amount distributed to the donor in the table. I hope that in the future, this will be resolved, even if it must be a setting that is possible to switch in either direction.

At the very least - make the fix editable to the users preference. if soft credits are italic or noted in different color in DB view how easy would that be to just duplicate in Web - just italicize the soft credits . done! very much appreciate your engaging in this conversation, Jarod - please do pass along my annoyance with this fix

We cannot always commit to providing the exact resolution that some people may have had in mind on Ideas like this one. It was determined that a link to a gift record should always show as the amount of that gift to provide a cohesive and coherent user experience. Seeing a $5.00 amount as a link which links to a $10.00 gift (as an example) was tested and feedback received suggested that the experience generated more questions than answers. Which is why this approach was pursued instead. I am sorry to hear that you don't like or agree with it, but that is the context and back story in case that helps. I do appreciate the feedback and would be happy to forward on the sentiment, but I would ask that you help me do so by explaining what you are being prevented from doing or understanding with the current state.

Agreed - the fix missed the mark.

This is not the fix people wanted which is why so many folx are still complaining about it. the soft credit amount should display in the Amount field, not the type.

A change was made several years ago to address this. When you look at the Giving history tile on a Constituent record that has been soft credited for a gift, you should see two amounts. One in the amount field which shows the entire amount (hard credit) of the gift with a link to the underlying gift record. Another amount displays in the Type field which does show you the specific soft credited amount for that Constituent.

If there is a different place that you are looking where you are not seeing the "Soft credit amount" then please do open a new idea and make it clear to state exactly where you are expecting to see a different amount. This idea was used to drive the change shown below.

Apparently "Shipped – This means that a recent feature release has addressed the request. "

However this problem persists as of June 2021 - how do those still experiencing this problem fix?!?!?

    What does shipped mean?

I just spoke with the help desk about this and they said its functioning the way it should and that I should put in an idea to fix it. Only here is the idea already posted and it even says shipped. I don't know if that means its been fixed or what but the total pledge amount rather than the soft credit portion is still showing on an individuals record.

New to RE and I just noticed the soft credit full amounts showing on a donor's record. This is not good for us. From a giving fund to all the donors a total of $52,000 is showing on everyone's record instead of $25 which is there donation. This is going to give a lot of our new users headache's and probably giving our wrong answers.

Did the plane ever land on this issue?  Still doesn't look like we have the ability to add columns for soft credits.  Thanks!!

Please take into consideration the need to filter soft credits in or out of a query/list in NXT the same way that functionality is critical in RE7 under Query/Gift Processing options.

Ellen and Pam are right on. We cannot utilize the retention or the new LYBUNT areas of Analyze at all because it completely ignores very important soft credits. This is really disappointing. We would like the ability to include soft credits if we need them throughout NXT.

We also use soft credits and found we could note accurately analyze acquired gifts without the function of choosing to include soft credits. We have grocery stores who allow food drives at their facilities and soft credit them for the donations received. One store recently gave discarded items - we gave them hard credit as they were the donor. Now that store shows on our acquired donor analysis, even though we've had a relationship with them for years. Now our reporting using NXT analytics will have to be couched with explanation and possible doubt/confusion. Our team's feeling like we paid big bucks for a system that's not where we thought it would be. It was not shared with us, prior to on-boarding, that much is currently unavailable in NXT.

I concur with Ellen's comment below. We use soft credits at my organization as well and it's confusing for fundraisers to not immediately see a constituents latest gift, as they would in RE7. Thanks for your attention to this fix.

Thanks for the update Jarod. In addition to this soft credit functionality, the first, latest and greatest tile does not currently reflect soft credits either.  Also, the lapsed donor tag shows for donor who have given recently through a soft credit gift.  I was told when we bought NXT in the spring that this would be addressed in the summer and recently that this had been pushed to the Fall.  It is really important at our organization that this feature is updated, as all family foundation, DAF giving is reflected on individual records as soft credits so our staff will find the new system unreliable if this information is incorrect.  Any idea when this update will be complete?

    Thanks,

    Ellen

After taking a look, it appears that this is currently functioning as designed. We are looking into providing a way to show/hide additional columns on Constituent tiles. Once that work is done we should be able to add a "Soft credit" tile to show the desired amount in this case.

In NXT, soft credits should also feed into the "latest" and "greatest" sections.

Thanks for the suggestion! We had planned to tackle additional soft credit functionality in NXT as we move into one-off gift add/edit work, but this is a good example of a "View gift" use case that might warrant more immediate attention. I'll bring this idea to our dev team to discuss.
