As of now , the giving statement and receipts in PDF are black and white, we cannot customize our own message, our own thank you to our donors, our own layout; we cannot even add a logo or anything... we cannot customize and remove unessessary part of the giving statement...
Both PDF of giving statement and gift receipts are VERY BLEND AND BORING.. we need branding! We need to send our donors nice and presentable statement and receipts in our own words and branding!
An absolute necessity is to have proper IRS required wording on the statement so donors can be protected when claiming a tax deduction. Here is an example below.
"All gifts are deductible for income tax purposes. Other than intangible religious benefits, no goods or services were exchanged for the gift(s) above.
Our organization endeavors to use gifts where suggested. Contributors are solicited with the understanding that our organization has complete discretion and control over the use of all donated funds."
The phrase “Official donation receipt for income tax purposes” cannot be edited out of the current Canadian PDF templates, which means they cannot be used for ineligible gifts – that is, gifts received from other registered charities or non-profit organizations.
A business/acknowledgement version of the templates would be much appreciated.
man, having personalization in this area would be huge! Personalizing for our donors is a major part of our strategy and this is one way we are not winning.
Agree 100% We cannot apply our look and feel at all. The template layout is poor in terms of fonts and spacing. Our legal name is different from our public name so receipts could be seen as sketchy since our donors are not familiar iwth our legal name.
I agree these need to be more customisable, so we can choose which information to include, for example a terminated/completed recurring gift shows as a commitment but it doesn't specify that it is not current, which could potential cause concern for a donors. The email is also too simple with no branding and doesn't render correctly in Outlook, it would create a very poor impression with donors. This feature needs to be improved as a priority for users to be able to adopt this functionality
I agree with so many of everyone's comments here. I found myself wanting to centralize donor receipting for a number of areas - grants, individuals, events. And so looked at the functionality of the native pdf receipt; as well as the letterbox add-on. I'll say that Letterbox is sufficient for generating individual receipts. You will need to tinker with the margins for inserting your own branded header and footer (i.e., there isn't an import function for those). As well, you'll need to adjust some of your own spacing to suit theirs (e.g., line spacing for merged fields for a constituent's address is not able to be reset). I would say, if you're just generating for an individual's current gifts, then Letterbox might be the way to go.
But, then I wanted to create templates for seamless acknowledging of grants and event business supporters through Letterbox. And I quickly found that it did not have personalized merged fields for primary contacts of those entities.
So, then I wanted to tinker with RENXT's native pdf receipting. The pdf receipting is created with hard codes - and the pdfs aren't editable - so there isn't much I can do to customize there. And although you can set in your org's logo, and a signatories information and e-signature, I am not a fan of the fact I cannot select or adjust the auto-populated receipt fields. For instance, I agree that I'd like not to have our EIN listed as "registration number".
So, I guess I will need to expand upon the functionality of the email receipt?
Altogether, it would be nice if RENXT would more easily allow its users to create and issue customizable donor receipts for primary contacts of business/foundation/congregation entities for their current gifts. To support Blackbaud, I'd gladly participate in a focus group, or provide a listing of insights of user-interest.
Agree. At this stage we are converting the PDF to word doc giving us the flexibility to edit the statement. Since we only send it out up on request, a bit of manual work is manageable. Still it would be great if Blackbaud can look into this for improvements.
I just wanted to add 1+ to the need to edit the PDF of receipts similar to the emails. The address formatting is incorrect, I need to remove the line about goods and services, and the "fund" code is internal language, should not be sent to donor. Would also like to edit to to match our branding and mailed receipts but less urgent.
And add the ability to customize the columns included, or how they are named!! General flexibility is needed!!!
Please allow more format editing, we need to print out on our letterhead which will not work currently.
Please allow customization of PDFs as the font styles do not match and it looks very unprofessional when sending receipts to donors. We need to be able to make changes and if not in NXT then the PDF needs to be editable and not password protected. This needs to be updated sooner than later.
Please increase the amount of characters in the PDF receipt text to more than 500!
Please allow additional customization of these PDFS. For example the salutation of the letter should pull the salutation from the constituent record and not the addressee field. Give us the option to change this or don't password protect the PDFS so we can edit them. Also "Registration number" in the USA is a Tax ID, allow us to change the field names.
Need PDF receipt template to be customisable. We would like to write our own message. At the moment I am having to write up my own receipts and send to Donors.
It would be great if we could also get them to generate for people that only have soft credits. Many higher donors only give through their company.

The PDF receipt could use the same template options as the email receipting.
The PDF receipts and PDF giving statements are useless as they are, especially since they export as password-protected PDFs and we can't even copy-and-paste into a branded Word template.
Hello, I have just asked support where was the customisable PDF!! I can see the email receipt but a branded template with our own message is the least that we should expect for a PDF functionality. At the moment, I am writing up thank you letters with my own word template, and then I have to send it by post or attach it and then create an action, I got all excited for nothing.
Please make giving statements customizable. Also Blackbaud should proactively warn users that certains info (ie. stock gifts) are not included.
This system is so archaic. Everything should be customizable and brandable in 2023. Get this done.
