Adding Primary Addressee and Primary Salutation Column to Lists in NXT

Right now, when I create a list in RE NXT, the list only exports with the primary name on the constituent record.  Thus, I am missing information on spouses.  I would like to add the columns for Primary Addressee and Primary Salutation, which give more information than just the name.

@Heather McLean Both. This and other kind of data needs to live in different cases for different uses. Sometimes you want one donor's info, and sometimes you're working with large lists, for mailings or otherwise.

An important use is when the lists are exported to use externally or referenced internally in RE for communication, whether with RE's built-in tools or 3rd-party plugins.

In general, the less clicks/loading time to find info, the better. Having this in list columns reduces that friction. The alternative is queries which are great for power users (I love them) but not so great for everyone else.

I'll also note that these kinds of list columns are available in the Blackbaud's K-12 software, and any time I see that I wonder about consistency in the BB ecosystem.

@Heather McLean - both. They open the fly-out as needed, but often all the information they need in the list. (Lots of great stuff since you asked) to save time I just copied @Sunshine's response.

Fundraisers can be coached, but compliance can be a problem, especially when there are such significant lags in loading records. Wouldn't it be better to be able to give them the output they actually need so they don't have to click and wait for a flyout to load? I would love to be able to filter the output of columns in lists and have ALL 1:1 fields available for view and filtering in lists. I'm not a programmer, but not supporting all the fields we've become accustomed to using is lazy and a poor implementation of unified view.

Yes we need primary addressee and primary salutation be added, when we do send out the new campaign we always use both.

Our fundraisers do not click to open the flyout. They say that whenever they click anything they get a blue or green spinning dot that is "a waste of their time". They therefore prefer to have the info they need right there visible as columns on the list.

Both, our fundraiser's spot check and using the fly out when necessary.

Both, spot checking for errors and flyout for more detail, to update things etc

We don’t use constituent lists for mailings. We use export or Mail. But you do have to use a constituent list for an eblast in NXT. Would be nice to be able to see the primary addressee/salutation in the list instead of having to click over into the record. Even nicer would be the ability to see an organization contact. All you see in the list is the key name, no nicknames or preferred names.

The flyout isn't helpful for most of the items they need and then they have to click on multiple links and lose the list. They say it is something they don't prefer to do.

Both, a flyout is not helpful to review specific field data for a large number of records. Also a fundraiser may do this in time bits, so 15 minutes, so if they can sort alpha name, and then can work through the list in small bits.

For those of you who are asking your fundraisers to use the Constituent List to guide donor outreach, do you coach them to click on the Constituent to open the flyout and inspect more details before calling? Or are they just spot-checking the data in the List?

Both please! I think issues of trust/security with users are separate issues and are not reasons to exclude this helpful functionality. The option to export these columns in lists is helpful for research and cleanup purposes. Also, our fundraisers never pull their own mailing lists. They follow a 2-week+ process which includes a list request, and an opportunity for all other fundraisers to review and edit.

I'm so confused by all this. Why is there a "correct" and "incorrect" way to use RE to pull a print mailing list? This seems like a "simple" or "complicated" way to pull a mailing list. I would 100% rather be able to export a Constituent List for a print mailing than have to save it as a query and then export it from Export. Why take two extra steps? Why not save the queries and exports for the COMPLEX work and leave the simple things to Lists?

I use Export for mailings. That way I can easily find the primary address as well as Addressee and Salutations.

I am in complete agreement that Lists should never be used as an export mailing tool! I would only want this for visibility and spot-checking by fundraisers. Lists serve an important purpose as an accessible, easy way for fundraisers to view, understand, and validate data — not to replace proper mailing functionality. I don’t even enable List export permissions for fundraisers in our security settings for this reason. WE 100% NEED THE MAIL FUNCTIONALITY BACK!!! Mail should handle mailing, with all the tools and safeguards that requires.

Ideally I'd like to see the option for both. We try to discourage our fundraisers from exporting data unless necessary and they don't use query. Therefore if there were columns in the grid view online, they could spot check their entire portfolio at once and ID any issues for these fields for the DB team to resolve.

We would like both. Exporting Addressee/Salutations is important to us. Apologies to the folks that think people shouldn't want the export option because they don't trust how folks would use it, but the tools should be built so folks have options and can do what works best for them and their organization.

For large mailings, being able to export Primary Addressee and Primary Salutation would be unendingly helpful. This would save us a ton of time!
