Enhance Fund Records to include more capabilities

If fund records could have similar functionality to organization records, including notes tab, actions tab, media tab, non-constituent relationships and (phone types) links to store URLs, we could rely on Raiser's Edge without additional Excel spreadsheets or Access workbooks to track how we distribute the funds we raise as grants to specific projects.

For example, users would like to be able to store PDF files associate with a fund such as a fund agreement and the grant application between the organization and the fund recipients. We would like to track contacts associated with managing the grant who do not otherwise need a constituent record in the database. We'd like to store a link to the file where we keep the project photos. We'd like to add notes on the project status.

Thanks to everyone for the ideas and use cases. They are very helpful to see!

Just a quick note that the Fund record in RE NXT does include an "Attachments tile" (a more modern version of what RE7 knew as the "Media tab"). It is unlikely that we'll be updating the Fund record to include these things in RE7/database view, but we do have plans to tackle Fund management capabilities in NXT web view and will be considering these additions there. I will move this idea over to the NXT Idea Bank for future consideration and we will keep it updated there for this audience.

If this was originally posted in 2012, is it in process of being updated?  A 5 year wait?

Yes! Additional functionality would be of IMMENSE help in all of our stewardship efforts. If the tabs were similar to constituent records, a significant amount of info and management on ROGUE spreadsheets would go POOF!

It's a huge oversight to not have tabs such as Notes, Actions and Media tabs in the RE fund record.
Where are the supporting fund documents and activities meant to go?

Media tab is needed at our organization so that we can attach fund guidelines and thank you letters from scholarship recipients. I like the idea of adding notes tab etc. though -- would be very useful!!!

This would be so helpful. We would love to have the media tab. We would like to attach the gift agreements to the funds as well. Thanks you!

Especially looking for a full Notes tab to allow multiple note types in the fund record. Right now we have to add this information in Financial Edge project record, and then frequently merge these two data sources together.

Absolutely! I would love to see a Media tab, especially for funds. We would love to move our paper files onto Raiser's Edge, but it doesn't make sense to have Fund specific information stored in a constituent record.

It would be wonderful if the Fund records could also contain geographic detail (i.e. city, state, etc.)

A Stallo - when would a fund have a location? This seems quite unusual to me.

Melissa - the way our database is set-up, we have over 3,000 "team" accounts set-up as constituent records and funds. It would be nice (ex. gift query) to pull geographic detail linked with that fund...right now we have to add a "State Attribute" to each fund record to see specifically what state that fund is located.

So you are not using funds to discreetely link donor restrictions to your GL system? How do you know what the restrictions are on your gifts and communicate them to your Finance office? No offense, but I hope that "off label" use of funds (or any records/fields) does not direct where the designers make enhancements to the database.

Fund records need a Media tab!!! We need to attach the signed, scanned Fund Agreement to the Fund record not to a Constituent record.

The ability to add notes would make it so much easier for us to manage restricted funds.

Fund records -We currently use fund location for gifts tracked as a gift attribute since we have 5 campuses and a district office. I track the scholarships in the same way as a fund attribute. With the fund attribute having a dropdown box of Permanently restricted, temporarily restricted or unrestricted. The fund location attribute displays six options on a dropdown for the five campuses and the district office. It would be great to have notes and media for funds. Please :)

It's important to have the fund agreement easily accesible, and stewardship reports would be nice as well!
