I understand that NXT should match capabilities of Database view; but database is superior in SO many ways.
No database manager wants to work in a web browser- It's SLOWER and subject to SO many problems.
Web view adaptations are common amongst CRMs, but they either charge less because of less functionaltity and an inferior product.
DON'T SUNSET DATABASE VIEW. </3
RENXT sucks big time. It's not user friendly and it's difficult to find things since there are no tabs. And why, why rename fields? What's the point to change attributes to custom fields just to make an example. Why I can't edit a gift in RENXT or delete it? Web view was created for the fundraisers on the go, to quick find info about a donor, and it's not suitable for DB admins. You don't release that by increasing costs and depleating what was working great, you are going to lose customers. So, KEEP DB VIEW!
Agree 100%. As a DB admin, we need both. Web View is better for some things (e.g. building queries) but DB view is better for other things (e.g. searching queries, as you can use the wildcard). Web View is dependent on server speed which means anything requiring lots of bandwidth will be difficult to do compared to DB, where server speed doesn't matter as much.
As others have said, DB View is for the admins, Web View is for the fundraisers.
I agree. I don't like anything about the Webview. I dread the idea of losing database view.
100% agree, don't take DB view away!
I believe many people are thinking of leaving Blackbaud if database view is no longer available.
Is there a timeline for sunsetting DB view?
Tracy Hernandez, that is very well put: DB view is for the DB admins, and web view is for the fundraisers. I 100% agree!
I agree 100%. We have been on RE NXT for a few months but I have to do most of my administrative work and gift entry on the database because it is much more comprehensive.
DBV is built for DB admins. Web view is built for fundraisers. DBV is too overwhelming for fundraisers. Web view lacks the functionality that DB admins need.
I'm sure it will be sunset eventually, because I can't imagine improvements would be made, but seriously, end of 2026 is WAY TOO SOON.
I agree with all comments listed in this plea to not Sunset DBV. Please allow the the DBA's to continue their work as usual.
Couldn't agree more. WebView is designed for look-only. For data operations, webview is a disjointed mess and feels like a clunky ancestor of database view. BB pays lip service to feedback but continues to press forward with an unsuitable alternative. It is dumfounding to hear NXT trainers tout how wonderful web view is, how much faster it is, how slick it is, and everyone should be using it. I've had so many issues with static queries and select from producing error after error in web view and never producing results. I literally cannot get anything done in webview. You'd think that webview would be an exact copy of DB view with enhancements, but they've gone the opposite direction and have stripped webview of the design layout, functionality, and intricacies that make DB view so powerful and user friendly. I would never recommend BB NXT webview to anyone.
DBV is so much quicker and you can view so much information in one screen where with WV you have to click multiple things and wait for the dreaded green dot to stop bouncing to see something that you can see instantly in DBV.
I agree with all the comments that Web view is primarily for gift officers and Database view is for DBAs and power users. Without Plug-ins, I would not be able to import my gift batches and event participants from the source systems. This would force us to return to manual data entry, which is very time consuming and prone to errors. Even simple things like the Constituent Address record having a field for the 'source' - little attributes like this that are critical for DBAs to monitor and evaluate data health are not available in Web view.
I noticed during the Azure outage last week that database view was unaffected. This alone is a good reason to keep it -- I was the only one out of a couple dozen users who could work in the database all day because I happened to have Db open.
Although those that didn't already have it open couldn't launch it...
I agree with Catherine. I will likely advocate to change our donor management system out of Blackbaud if they really do disable database view.
I feel like Blackbaud are threatening to remove features from Database view to force us to use webview without understanding that the reason database managers and power users do not use webview is because web view does not yet meet our needs. I want to use webview, when I can do all my tasks in it without losing time and productivity.
Having the threat that database view will be turned off in 2027 makes me consider my future with Blackbaud products and make recommendations to my charity based on the direction Blackbaud are headed. I have already put a database replacement project on the horizon if Blackbaud do not change their messaging about this, or dramatically improve webview sooner rather than later.
If we had reasurrance that database view would continue while we assess web view functionality, and that it would only be switched off when 99.9% of customers are using it exclusively and are happy with it, then we would have time for patience to see where it goes.
A looming deadline may force action earlier, but it may not be in the direction Blackbaud want us to go.
As most know from some of my rants. RE NXT SUCKS!!!!! Database View is the superior product for Database people (Database Managers, Director of Database Services, etc). RE NXT is made for dummies, with little experience in the database techniques or database power users. RE NXT looks junky, is slow and an inferior product compared to Database View. RE NXT does not even look like a database because it was made for dummies. Several features of Database View are not available in RE NXT and may never be available (Action Tracks, Deceased Finder where you have control in Database View), Plugins and many more. BLACKBAUD - Stop making Database People have to dumb down because of the rest of the non-tech people like gift officers, managers, etc. Keep RE NXT for them but let us folks in the know keep the workhorse RE DATABASE VIEW. Our society dumbs down way too much items as it is as opposed to rising up folks to a better level.
The query language is very powerful in DBV. As DBA -- I do NOT want to have a system that uses the soft language in NXT. I've worked in many systems. DBV is the most powerful behind actually using code to query the database
Agreed! Web view also doesn't allow membership edits I require (eg. renewing, upgrading, downgrading memberships) so would lose a key functionality that I need to managethat whole department.
Agree with not sunsetting the Database View, since it is why many clients chose it to begin with. Webview is not conducive to data management. It is helpful for those just looking at records, but those of us who are changing data constantly it really sucks.
