When using Lists as a working view you can click into people's records and change details, but the Lists don't change. This makes it tricky to use Lists as a working space because it won't export correctly or show the correct information - it's very inefficient, and isn't an issue with database queries.

Having an option to manually refresh all list types as you work on them would solve this issue, and leave the other lists not in use running on their normal refresh-rate until you switch to one of them and manually refresh.
