Currently if someone adds a name to "Former Name" in NXT, it updates the "Maiden name" field in RE.
I would like to either see the previous former name data be automatically copied to a table like the alias table to retain that value and allow us to select during the copy what that name is representative of (nickname, maiden name, former married name, married name), then when an update to the "Former Name" occurred, the value wouldn't be lost.
But the "former name" label is still misleading to someone who is just making data updates. They could make an assumption that it's something other than a last name, like the first name, etc.
In our alumni database, we definitely need to be able to identify maiden names, so not clearly identifying this field could cause issues when we are trying to identify a former student in our database after she has married.
Can you either create another field named "former name" and keep the "maiden name", or enable an option to retain a list of all former last names?
I think this issue is the one we are facing in not being able to change field display names in NXT (functionality that we have in RE7). Similar ideas on this wider issue are in these cases:
