We shipped the ability to manage benefits on Appeals, Gifts, Memberships and Events. The batch functionality will be coming in the next couple of months.
Yes, this is essential. Having even one gift with a benefit in a batch makes NXT batch an exercise in frustration and a huge time such since you have to enter the gift, then remember to open it in DB view to add the benefit info.
