For any information that comes from an external source and needs to be entered into RE (i.e. a spreadsheet of new gifts that were tracked in another software), you need either the Constituent ID or SSN in order to link the new gift import to existing constituents. It is extremely time consuming to look up each constituent one at a time to find their existing constituent ID number. It would be great if you could upload a list of names (and possibly other constituent information like address) and have RE spit out the suggested constituent IDs. An RE support rep was able to suggest a workaround for this which involved attempting to import a list of new constituents and then seeing which ones were detected as a duplicate along with the suggested constituent ID. As you can imagine, that workaround is quite cumbersome.
