For queries, separate permissions to edit the whole query from permissions to change the category on the query.

We do lots and lots of data integrity projects. I like to give our staff and student workers queries to work from rather than Excel files, so they can click right into each record they need to work on. This would be our ideal workflow -

  • I build a data integrity query and put it in a category for the person who manages our student workers.

  • She moves the data integrity query into a category specific to the student worker she wants to assign it to.

  • When the student worker finishes, he or she moves it into a Done/Ready to Review folder.

  • I or another staff member checks the student's work. Then, if the query addresses a topic that requires ongoing maintenance, it gets moved into an ongoing category that is regularly reviewed for assigning to student workers. If the query was for a one-off project, it gets deleted.

Since there are student workers and staff members working with these queries who don't understand building queries, I would like to lock the queries down so that nobody else can edit them. However, if I do so, others can't even change the category, which negates the workflow above. Therefore, it would help us if the "others can modify" check box didn't apply to query category. If others want to still be able to lock down the category, I suggest moving that to its own check box.
