Implement a primary assigned fundraiser

Enable us to designate a primary assigned fundraiser, like designating a primary employer. Then allow us to use the primary assignment in the following ways:

  • Filter or display for constituent and related entities (at least spouse) in lists, queries, and insights

  • Limit automatic assignment of gift fundraiser credit to primary assignment

  • Limit “Needs attention” cards to primary assignment’s work center

  • Limit Portfolio tile in Work Center to primary assignments

  • Indicate primary assignment in Fundraisers list at top of constituent profile

Use cases:

  • We assign certain related entities of primary assigns, such as spouses and personal foundations, to make it clear that they are not available to be assigned to anybody else. Being able to filter on and display primary assignments would enable us to identify cases where a related entity's assignment was missed during the assignment/reassignment process.

  • In most cases, if we have multiple assigned fundraisers on an entity, we want the primary director to receive credit for all gifts, but we only want the other directors to receive credit in certain instances (or never). Limiting automated fundraiser credit to primary assigns would make manually reviewing/adjusting fundraiser credits the exception rather than the rule.

  • When something needs to be done with/for a donor, it is ultimately the primary director’s responsibility to make sure it happen, even if somebody else will actually do the thing. Limiting the needs attention cards to the primary assignment ensures that only the cards a director is personally responsible for appear, making the cards more meaningful. It also prevents duplication of effort or confusion as to whose job it is to clear a particular card.

  • Because we assign related entities, the counts in the work center portfolio tab are inflated for us. Being able to limit to primary assigns would enable us to see at a glance how big a director's portfolio actually is.

  • Indicating the primary assign at the top of the constituent profile would make it possible to tell at a glance which director is primarily responsible for interactions with the donor.

A couple additional notes:

  • Based on other ideas I've seen, I'm guessing a lot of people would find value in being able to define an assignment type as primary instead of assigning a specific assignment relationship as primary. For us, this would only work if we could choose multiple assignment types that are automatically primary and then police ourselves to make sure those types don't all end up on one entity. We would also need assignment end dates to be factored in because we don't change the fundraiser type when ending an assignment.

  • We are very new to RE NXT, so I may be unaware of similar functionality that already exists, or tricks and workarounds to get to similar results. I have experimented and looked around quite a bit though, and if it’s this hard to figure out, I think there’s still value to considering my idea.

You should be able to do this by adding additional table options for fundraiser/solicitor types.

In NXT web view go to: Settings - Tables - Solicitor Type. From there you can add "Primary Fundraiser" or any other names/types you may need.

It can be confusing when naming convention are not consistent in web view. Looking at a donor record the relationship shows under "Assigned Fundraiser" but the table refers to it as "Solicitor Type".
