Renew Active memberships instead of creating a new membership

Supporting early renewals is critical to our membership retention strategy. Members are incentivised to renew well before their expiry date because their renewal extends from the current expiry date, ensuring they do not lose any membership time. As a result, many members renew months in advance.

The Unified View form currently treats these renewals as new memberships rather than extending the existing active membership. This leads to duplicate records, additional manual clean-up, reporting inaccuracies, and a disrupted member experience. The limitation directly impacts a high-volume business process and prevents staff from efficiently managing early renewals, potentially reducing adoption of the Unified View form.

Hi Lacey, I have tested Renewals but changing the setting Review transactions with unmatched constituents as suggested. Whilst it updates the membership we select as a renewal, the dates don't add to the existing membership, they overwrite instead. I had to open a Support ticket for it.

We are also running into this roadblock. We cannot adopt NXTs tools because of the significant limitations existing and the extra work created by using them. The need for different data review settings for different types of transactions would make the option of auto-matching actually useful and functional.

Thanks Lacey. We currently use the setting Review transactions with unmatched constituents as we found it was a good way for users to adopt Unified View after we moved away from BBNC. Are you saying that we would have to Review and match all transactions from now on like we did with OLX and BBNC just because we need the ability to match some memberships? Sounds like we need the ability to set up different online data review preference based on the form types (Donations, events, constituents and memberships).

Thanks Lacey, for what you've mentioned is it possible to set Online Data Review per transaction type (e.g. donation, event registration, membership?) At present we're using the Review transactions with unmatched constituents option for Online Data Review and I can't see any way to specify reviewing all membership transactions while keeping the current option for events and donations?

Lacey our organization doesn't use Online Giving. How will we renew memberships?

Thank you for submitting this Idea! We do support Membership renewals via Online Data Review. To enable this, you'll need to update your Online Data Review setting (Settings > Features > Online Data Review) to Review and match all transactions so you can review Membership purchases for existing constituents and then decide whether to Renew, Upgrade, Downgrade, etc. I hope this is helpful.
