Add support for required fields while adding constituents in RE NXT web view Merged

How can Blackbaud release features in RE NXT that breaks settings/rules in Database View?

I discovered that one can create new constituents in RE NXT but it ignores the Field required settings in Database View.  This now means we need to keep auditing new records and correct these mistakes.  One of the fields is actually the Address/Country and if one does not create an address through RE NXT if one is creating a new constituent it does not default a country value.  Very annoying.  Other fields we use are addressee/salutation.

And while I'm at it, if one links via RE NXT relationships and makes one the spouse, there is not Head of Household default or even a button to set.  Thus, we now have spouses linked via the Partner button where neither is the Head of Household.  And then this messes up exports because if one selects Head of Household it see's there a spouse but then it does not export out either of them.

So, we are spending lots of time correcting the errors from these features.

How can Blackbaud release items when simple testing seems to not be done as it breaks other things?

And when I called support on this, aside from them not knowing this, they stated I have to make my "fixes" as a feature in the ideas bank.  It's actually things that are BROKEN, it's not a feature.

Can you tell I'm very frustrated.

Howard - I'm sorry to hear about your user experience here. A couple quick notes:

I believe you mistakenly posted this idea in the RE7 idea bank. I'm going to move it over to the NXT idea bank for you. I also believe there is already an idea (with several votes) for this, so I'll look to merge this idea into that one. You should automatically receive updates when notes are added or the status changes.

Required field support has not yet been added to web view in RE NXT. We've tried to communicate this clearly as we release new capabilities, but I will say that your feedback on the lack of support has been something we're heard from many of our users and clients. We are trying to nail down a time frame for getting this into web view. It is helpful to see that your use cases and needs are primarily around primary addressee, primary salutation, and address. That type of information and detail does certainly help with our scope and priority discussions. In the meantime, you may consider asking your users to only add Constituents in database view or continue reviewing and updating the data added from web view.

I will work with our support group to hopefully provide a better experience for you in the future. This particular issue has been classified as a "future enhancement" and not a "defect" - we knowingly released the Add Constituent capability before "required field" support existed in web view. We found the use of Required Fields varied across orgs and made the determination that some users and orgs (not all) would be able to make use of the feature even without required field support. We tried to clearly communicate this but obviously could/should have done better. I do believe this is what support was trying to communicate when they sent you to the idea bank, but I would hope that they would make the reasoning more clear so as not to make you think you are being asked to request "fixes" as idea bank items. That is certainly not the case. I can understand why you would be frustrated with this particular functionality nuance, but I can assure you it is working as intended (however, admittedly controversial) for the web view v1 of Add Constituent.

Thanks also for pointing out the HoH nuance. I was not aware of this personally and will follow up with the development team responsible for this area of the product to figure out if anything can be done to help in the short term.

    Thanks,

    Jarod Bonino
