Please can we have the option to use tabs when viewing a record in webview, in the same way as exists in database view?
Navigating a record in database view is SO much easier and intuitive, with less scrolling and fewer clicks to get to the information sought. There's a reason database view records had tabs! Webview attempts to show all this information on one screen, which is painful to navigate.
The current webview may be helpful for some users who only need to see key information, but not for those of us who need to navigate a whole record.
Echoing what my fellows users have said. Those of use that have been using DB view for years know where everything is to quickly and effectively add or look for information. The task of hunting for the correct "tab" or even remembering what the new name is called in webview, makes webview difficult to move to with ease.
I agree. As a DBA, web view hinders my ability to do my job efficiently. You can download a Chrome extension called SmartNXTTools that will display "tabs" on web view. It's not perfect, but I find it makes things more bearable. You can get it here: https://www.smartthing.org/smartnxttools/
Web view may be very helpful for the average Prospect Manager or Solicitor, but it is a NIGHTMARE for the data base managers and those folks that are responsible for "changing" data. Why can't the user choose the view they want to use?
Just another voice in support of Jon, Joanne, and others comments. As a db admin I find navigating to see all the info I want cumbersome.
Re: seeing overview of all the record data in one screen is great for development staff. I most often want to see all the data from one tab on one screen.
Have downloaded tool from SmartTHiNG. But why do we consistently have to go to outsides sources, power autormate etc. to have desired product?
Echoing what Maya and Jonathan said. Currently webview is great at giving an initial overall impression of a donor, but awful at showing a quick review of all gifts, actions, etc. In database view, because of the compact nature, I can quickly scan with my eyes at least up to 40 gifts/actions/notes, etc. per tab all on the same screen. In webview, on the same record, even going to the gift screen, I have to scroll down past the summary (which I can't alter to give me the information I may want summarized), and then I can only see 10-11 gifts at once, and have to scroll and click to see more. Being able to compact that information like you can in database view, and not having to click and scroll and click and scroll is vital.
I agree with the other comments. 1. changing what screen the records open to for cleanup purposes is so helpful. 2. The Gifts tab in database view, opens to the history and details, based on the columns that are helpful to me. Without clicking through twice in webview to get to that, you only see a few chosen gifts (first, last, greatest) which is helpful to a fundraiser, but not a database admin. 3. Data entry is more cumbersome and inefficient.
I've found the following 3rd party tool to be helpful: https://www.smartthing.org/smartnxttools/
It shows a list of tiles across the top with checkmarks to indicate if there is data on the tab.
@Joanne, you can always drag the gift panel to the top of the web view constituent page if it helps.
In Database view I regularly change what screen opens first when I'm viewing constituent records depending on the project i'm working on at the moment. For instance, right now I'm checking Acknowledgement letters against gifts. In DB view, I would set my Default Tab for Records to Gifts in the options. Then, as I go from one record to the next in my query each record opens on the Gift tab and I can quickly check to see all the data is included and accurate in the letter and then move on to the next reord. I attempted this project in Web View, but I have to scroll through each record to get to the gift panel. I'm abandoning ship and headed back to DB View. I did try.
I'm pretty sure some gift officers forget what information is available in tiles in NXT webview because they forget the tiles exist. Being able to see a tab view across the top of the all the options, especially with a signifier that there is data available in the tile, is so helpful in database view.
1000000% YES! The tiles at the very least should match up to what was on the tabs in database view. You should be able to only see the tiles that pertain to your specific role, otherwise there is way too much scrolling to find and update records. We also need to be able to see MUCH more information in each tile, such as gifts, custom fields, etc. You are making our jobs so much more cumbersome the way things are displayed now.
I completely agree!
As more and more functionality is turned off on database view, I am getting seriously worried at how cumbersome it will be to navigate a record in web view. I have tried to do more in web view, but become extremely frustrated with the constant scrolling to navigate a record!
agree 100%!
Additionally, it is easier to see the "big picture" in database view since more information is displayed at a time. Simply compacting the information in NXT (reducing white space) would allow more ease of use. Also, in database view, you can rearrange and resize columns, and these adjustments will still be there next time; this needs to be the same in NXT.
Agreed! Web view may look more pleasing to the eyes at first, but you have to click into everything so many times to actually view all the information, or even more clicks to go in and change things. It does not make data entry easier at all. I find myself opening database view to view & update constituent records when I have to use NXT for batch because it's so much easier to view and clean up the record in db than in web view.
Similarly, being able to see MORE of the giving information is essential. Knowing there's a gift is good, but without knowing what campaign, fund and appeal it is, or who solicited it, it's simply not helpful.
