Blackbaud - are you trying to make me cry? First you take away Control Reports for Query in web view and now you've taken away the ability to print the report criteria with for Standard Reports?!?
It's like you want every DBA to get into arguments with their bosses about "Why isn't XXX in the report?!?" or "Why was YYYY included in this report?" "How come I'm not seeing any gifts to "XXXXX Fund"? "Why doesn't this match the totals from the other day?!?"
We need the criteria to be able to answer questions about what is or is not included in any given report. What are the filters? What are the soft credit options? What are the matching gift options? Was this report run on everyone in the database or just a query of records? Did you include or exclude records with certain attributes?
HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO VERIFY THE ACCURACY OF REPORTS IF WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WAS INCLUDED OR EXCLUDED?!?
Please think about the needs of the lowly database administrator who is just trying to give the boss what they want!
<steps off soapbox>
Blackbaud- THANK YOU For implementing this. Now I'm going to create a new idea requesting the option to print criteria on the first page (like in DBV) because we know everyone will print the report and throw away that page. ;)
100%. I have people come back to me a year or two later with a PDF or printed report saying "I need you to run this again with current data." If I don't have that criteria info, I have no idea what was in that report because chances are that report has been changed in RE to get other data and now I am getting all the questions stated in the original post plus many more. This is essential to deal with people who do not know that RE does not think like a sane person so you have to be SO specific in what you ask for.
Agree 100%
100% agree. This is a vital function. Our leadership has specifcally asked for criteria to be included on reports. The lack of this option is preventing us from moving to standard reports in web view.
In general, there are a LOT of features such as this that exist in database view but are missing in web view. I know that Blackbaud keeps encouraging us to move our processes to web view, but until features such as this (even if they're "low use") exist in web view, database view will always be needed.
I agree with everything above and will add that showing the criteria is an important paper trail when we are running gift detail and summary reports for Business office reconcilations. It shows we are not double counting soft credits or matching gifts, as well as showing we have included all of our restricted funds. These reports are part of our quarterly reconciliation as well as our annual audit, and the criteria page is a key piece to ensure our work is accurate. I cannot understand why this is not available!
Hear hear!
Agree with everything Carlene says. These are the sorts of details that we MUST have in web view if it's ever to fully replace database view. It's because of the lack of these features that most of the time, even when a function is available in web view, I use database view anyway. This is a great example of how even the features available in web view are often missing key pieces of functionality.
Cosign everything Carlene says! Even if it's not used by everyone or used a crazy amount, these kinds of tools are absolutely critical in some shops and are such a useful tool for database professionals. Please don't make it harder to do our jobs!
