Convert an individual to an organization record and vice versa

In database view, you can convert an individual record to an organization record and vice versa. This is primarily needed when someone passes away and their estate becomes their constituency. There are also data hygiene moments where it would be best to be able to convert a record instead of manually rebuilding a new record.

Agree that this functionality should be available. I wouldn't change individuals to estates, though - the estate is legally separate, if you do any kind of predicitive modeling based on past giving those individuals will not be included, and you wind up with weird data like having alumni information on an organization record. Best practice is to create a separate estate record and link the two.

Often, donors will enter their information incorrectly, either on an online donation form, or a third party platform that we later import into RE. Oftentimes, it doesn't become clear until a later date that an individual has entered themselves as an org, or vice versa (oftentimes, when tax receipt questions come up). Being able to easily convert between the two solves this problem is definitely something that needs to be carried over to webview, especially given that gifts cannot be moved from an individual to an org, and orgs and individuals cannot be merged.

Another vote for this - we have this issue often that records are synced from other 3rd party platforms and the only way to correct it is via DBV. Not only that, but because we can't merge or transfer gifts between profiles if they aren't the same constituent type, we often have to convert to organization/individual and convert back after we have completed a merge or change. All things that we have to jump out of NXT to do.

Please add this. Mistakes happen and DBA's need the ability to correct them in order to keep our systems clean and accurate.

I vote for this as well. The reason is there are many times a donor will complete an online donation and after processing, we get notified that the donation is on behalf of their organization.

I voted for this, but also, I can't believe there's a possibility we won't have that functionality! Like Shani mentioned below, sometimes we end up with organizations formatted as individuals in LO, and we will need to be able to change it in RE.

Please, please, add this to Web view | Unified view.

This is a very handy feature that while it may not be used often, when it is needed it is invaluable. I’m currently using it in database view to correct an online gift entry. A group donated but didn’t mark it as “from an organization,” so the gift was placed under an individual’s record. To fix this, it’s cleaner to move the gift to a temporary individual record, convert it to an organizational record, and then transfer it to the correct organization’s record.

We use Luminate and we have orgs registerering events but the form creates their RE record as an individual. We then have to convert this record over to an org record. Reentering the info by hand opens us up to potential errors.

Please have this feature available in future enhancement releases in NXT web view.

I agree that this is helpful for data clean-up efforts! In my case, sometimes there are records that were inputting incorrectly or with a different perspective in mind. It would be great to have this exist in RE NXT.
