If you have recorded a donor's gifts to other organizations through database view, they all get sorted into the "Other gifts" category on their Prospect Management tab within NXT. The only way to get gifts categorized properly as Philanthropic Gifts or Political Contributions is if you put the exact phrases "Philanthropic Gifts" or "Federal Election Commission" in the Reason field for the gift when entering the gift in database view.
As the Reason field is a text box, and not a drop down menu, if you do not know these two exact phrases, every gift you enter for anyone in your portfolio automatically gets sorted as "Other" when viewed through NXT.
My suggestion is to do away with the text field aspect of "Reason" for a donor's gift to another organization within their Prospect tab. Rather than a text box, make this field a drop-down menu with three preset options: Philanthropic, Political, and Other. This will avoid any confusion, and not require RE users to go searching for the two, exact, magic phrases above.
Thanks!
Many gift officers use only NXT and would not have the knowledge of where to see this information. It is key to makecoding easy to use and when there are mandatory only options, drop down options are easiest.
