I have been looking for an easy way to communicate declined recurring gift information with donors. It looks like there may be 3 possible options to improve this very important communication with our donors.
1-Allow the Gift Receipting to send an email to gifts with a zero dollar value. I have created an email template that includes all of the gift information including the decline reason. I can even create a gift list that will show up in gift receipting, I can select all of the donors, but it does not actually allow me to send the email.
2-Add merge fields to the Email Marketing. By adding individual gift information merge fields, I would be able to create template for declines and use the same gift list to send the email.
3-Create a work flow that will automatically send an email to donors who have a declined recurring gift. This would be ideal, because then it would automatically send the email and I wouldn't have to remember to go in and select and send an email.
I am sure there are other options for automating this task. I am one person trying to manage all of the details with our donors transactions so automation is key!
I agree that this type of automation would be ideal. I have been able to create a workflow that adds an open action to remind me to contact the donor, but this could take days or weeks to get to that action depending on what other tasks and open actions are on my plate. I would LOVE if a workflow could automate an email to the donor that could also contain the attempted transaction amount and the reason for the decline, as well as custom text from us about next steps.
This automation would also be helpful for skipped/held recurring gifts that the donor has updated through the portal since we continue to have to approve those as $0 transactions and it would serve as a reminder/confirmation for the donor.
