I would like to be able to change the Opportunities tab to be called Proposals, like it is in the database view.
Proposals were recently renamed to Opportunities in RE NXT web view to follow the industry convention and fit with the pipeline nature and other reporting functionality we plan to build around them. We haven't made any decisions on whether record types could be configured to rename them - it's not planned at this time.
This should be reopened and reconsidered. Calling them Opportunities is just a buzzword. The industry uses Proposals as the term for... a proposal. It's confusing to fundraisers and I'm constantly having to explain this over and over.
I don't know if it's too late to comment on this ("Will not implement") but I find that my newer NXT users vs. people who have used RE7 have the most difficulty understanding the concept of Opportunities, but when I describe them, "sitting with a donor, you hand them a proposal," it begins to make sense to them. Even early in the pipeline, I explain to my colleagues that an Opportunity is a planned proposal.
To us, Opportunity is not solid enough for people to really understand it, and if I have to use the old term, "proposal," to get people to conceptualize what the end goal is, then maybe we're using the wrong term.
Maybe I've only been at small organizations, but I have only ever used proposals, we have never presented donors or funders with opportunities.
Hi, I see the reasoning. But perhaps there could be an option to choose which terminology to use? It's hard to teach new users the basics and the different terminology doesn't help.
Hello everyone. When deciding what to name this feature in NXT, we wanted it to represent more of the entire process. 'Proposal' has a bit narrower scope than 'Opportunity'.
I thought that this would be an issue in our office, but no one minds that they're called opportunities in NXT. I do think though that they should be the same in both views of the database.
I would also like for us to be able to have a consistent language across the two formats. The different language can cause unnecessary confusion.
I agree that proposals makes more sense and provides consistency.
I would vote for a org specific configurable setting. I personally like "Opportunities" better, since we are treating them as our pipeline. We create a opportunity record for all donors that gave the previous year, and ad-hoc for new prospects to our org. Opportunities makes more sense. I just wish that we could change it to Opportunity in RE Database view.
Would certainly be clearer. Not here, but at my last org, Opportunity would first bring to mind Volunteer Opportunity. This is one of the terminology changes I really don't care for, as I think it's more confusing rather than clearer.
