Currently, typing in some information into the Search bar and then hitting Return will ignore what's been typed and open the previously opened constituent record. I know the search results are displayed in a drop-down and needs to be selected, but hitting Return is pretty instinctive. It's unlikely that there are any circumstances where, having input some new search criteria, a user is going to want to immediately disregard that and return to the previous record. Can we fix this from a usability standpoint? Maybe have Return bring up a full-screen list of matched constituents?
With my nonprofit being brand new to this system, this simple functionality wastes a lot of time. I don't understand why this wasn't an out-of-the-box feature. It's a HUGE quality of life feature!
As a front line users, could the search functionality include allow for a search on a postcode and NXT system record ID?
This is one of the complaints about web view that I consistently get from our front line fundraisers.
I wish NXT had the shortcut search options that the database view does (ie: *) to help find constituents
This search function is atrocious to say the least. We should be able to filter, search by address, phone, email, etc.
Also make it search addresses/email addresses and fields outside of name. I've heard BB say it does this, but I have tested it and it does not.
Guys it's 2022 and this is still a thing - Blackbaud, surely fixing the search functionality would make the whole database more useable? This is a Golden Quick Win.
Yes! We use BBGrantmaking and RE. The search bars are in the same place and look identical in both systems. But in BBGM, unlike RE, you MUST hit enter to start the search. As a user of both databases the inconsistency is driving me nuts. It would be ideal if BB could duplicate this BBGM functionality in RE.
I see this is open for voting. This actually has already been delivered to my version of NXT. The only thing is you have to let the search complete before hitting enter. It works pretty well if you know exactly who you are looking for and how they are in the system. If you are searching for someone with many results you still need to click if it isn't the top one on the preview list returned.
I agree with everyone on this issue. It is hard to unlearn clicking enter. Also, there is no "gain" in having the prior search come up when you are searching. So I see no reason to keep it as it is.
Please make this change. It is frustrating when you are in a keyboard-specific mindset and run into the issue described in the OP.
Definitely a priority to be improved!
NXT continues to be useless to me in many ways, including the issue covered by this idea. It has some nice features but is missing many basic and daily functions available on the RE database view. I have given up on using the Web view unless I am stuck somewhere and need to use my phone to check something. Other than that, I only sign into Web view to launch the database view. It's been years and it baffles me how NXT has not become a fully functional database management tool yet.
I agree with Guess' and Allison Dickerson's sentiment commented 8/23/2021 at 7:10PM. Brand new today that I am getting emails regarding ideas and they are this old.
Why am I getting an email about an Idea that is two years old with a great
deal of votes already? Why would an idea take two years? This seems to say
that nothing is happening when ideas are even submitted and to use the
Ideas for RE NXT is a waist of time
Yes! Please make this fix.
This would eliminate a lot of stress...
PLEASE! It's been 2 years since this idea came into the fold, and it seems like such a simple task.
2 years since the original post and we all know that this has been an issue long before. Unreal. Right out the gate it proves what kind of experience users are going to have.
I just found this page. Mark Lennon posted this on July 24, 2019. Looks like my RE NXT experience is going to continue to frustrate me.
