Right now, you can link new gifts to existing opportunities via import, but there is not a way to link existing gifts to opportunities in bulk. If you want to use the opportunity module more effectively, you can't update older data easily - you can only link gifts manually which is time consuming and detracts from good usage of the opportunity system.
